How to build creative confidence
Font find, creative confidence, work highlight, and interesting links
Hey reader,
Here’s Issue 2 of The Pilcrow. This is my first attempt at writing a monthly newsletter and the fact that I’m now on my second issue is a personal achievement! Hooray!
Here’s what I collected, curated and created this month.
1. Visual Stimulation
Beautiful, immersive and occasionally hypnotic 3D graphics: the work of Roman Bratschi.
2. Font Find
Casserole. Not for everyday use, but worth keeping.
3. How to build creative confidence
I always noticed how designers struggle most, not with their skillset, but in the way they overcome their fear in achieving an outcome. So I decided to share some insight on how to overcome that fear and build creative confidence. Read here.
4. Work Highlight
If you’re from mainland Europe, the chances are that you’ve heard of or even used Eurostar. If you’re not familiar, it is a high-speed train, connecting the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. DesignStudio have recently rebranded Eurostar and I love everything about this, down to the last detail. Seeing the style of the wordmark, colour palette, typography and illustration used for such a huge public brand is unusual but I’m glad this is the direction that this project took.
All the brand elements work beautifully together and the spark symbol is just spot on. It works well in print, on upholstery, and even better in 3D! Metaverse are you still there?
Just one image doesn’t do justice to this project so I encourage you to take the time and really enjoy going through this case study.
5. Quality Mockups
I never say no to high-quality mockups, especially if there’s a free option. You shouldn’t either.
6. In other news
After the serif mass exodus in the luxury branding world, there seems to be a U-turn. Burberry gets its serif shoes back on. Will this trigger another movement or will Burberry be left alone on the dance floor?
Hangar, the studio that I’m part of has just launched a new case study on our website.
